Bryan wins 1st Place in SFB Biomaterials Education Challenge

Bryan the Outreach Coordinator for the UF Chapter of the Society For Biomaterials (SFB) wins 1st Place in the SFB Education Challenge competition at the 2019 SFB Annual Meeting held in Seattle, Washington.

For the competition, Bryan designed a lesson for middle school students on osseous (bone) biomaterials and the metallic biomaterials used for orthopedic applications. In the lesson, students are taught to understand bone from the perspective of a materials engineer to understand its structure-property-function relationships. Bryan tested the lesson at the PK Yonge Developmental Research School at the University of Florida by teaching it to Dr. Mayra Cordero’s seventh grade students and at the GatorTRAX program run by Tau Beta Pi.

As the 1st place winner, Bryan will receive $1,500 to go to the UF Chapter of the Society for Biomaterials.

The complete lesson is available from the Society For Biomaterials here.
